My One True Love
Paris of course! As if a mere man will ever capture my heart quite like Paris has. Friday my friend Candace, who is from Vancouver and on exchange in Belgium, came to Tours. We went to the fine arts museum (only 2 euros!) and then out for dinner with Claire at this awesome mexican place. Then we went to a café for a drink and dessert. I bought the most gorgeous dress for my university Convocation (yes, I know it's not until May!) that probably cost more than a weekend in Amsterdam would have (I've pretty much decided that unless I win the lottery I'm not going) but I am in LOVE with it. I will totally wear it after to weddings and such. And I got it in FRANCE! Saturday Candace and I got up at 5:30am to catch a train to Paris. We went to our hostel but couldn't check in yet so we headed out to Versailles. Because both of us had been before (and spend a lot of time in the palace but not on the grounds) we decided to stick to the grounds. We did go inside the castle Marie-Antoinette had built and wandered around her hamlet. A lot of cute little buildings. Afterwards we didn't have enough time to go back to our hostel, so we went straight to the Eiffel Tower to meet up with our Fat Tire Bike tour ( we did the night tour). It was a lot of fun, scary at times riding a bike through Paris streets but such a fun way to see the city! We stopped for delicious ice cream and the tour included a boat cruise on the seine. It rained on and off, and POURED during the boat cruise. We started off sitting up top (uncovered!) but Candace and I decided we'd rather stand and be dry then sit and be soaking. Not that we didn't get pretty wet in the little bit of time we were on the top deck. We got back to our hostel around midnight. Loooong day! Our 2 person private room was really nice though. Sunday we got up in time for the hostel's free breakfast, wandered around the Latin corner, went to the Panthéon (where famous people like Voltaire are buried), and then I made a mad dash for my 1:30pm train back to Tours. I am so tired!
